ˇBienvenidos! It may seem that Spanish in Dade County needs no introduction. Miami has, after all, been called a "great Latin American capital," and in the words of former mayor Ferré, a person can "go through life in Miami without having to speak English at all" (Esquire, May 1983). Spanish is heard on the streets, in major businesses, on the airwaves, and in homes throughout the three-county area. Still, it is surprisingly difficult to find education for children in Spanish. Perhaps because people think children are such natural learners, or because of the economic advantages of English, few classes are provided for young learners. It is harder, for example, to find a bilingual preschool here in Miami than in many other places in our hemisphere. We have put together what information we currently have, realizing that it changes constantly. If you have knowledge of other resources for education in Spanish language and culture, please let us know, through one of the addresses below.
