Wales 2009 Chateaux Page

Seven chateaux in three days It's hard to believe they built on that scale, but the buildings are still there to prove it.

(or, go to general France pix)

BLOIS (a little bit of many styles)

CHAUMONT - very story-book and with a garden-art show, too.

Caernarfon Castle, view from the river. Caernarfon Castle from the square. (grayish day--very unusual.)
PenRhyn Castle, near Bangor (above and below) 4th picture taken the following week. Vines on building starting to leaf out.

AMBOISE -- our home base, but we spent only a little time there

AZAY LE RIDEAU --
I remembered it as a jewel from when I was there as a teen.

CHINON--
called the royal fortress, this is now an archeological dig and construction site.

CHENONCEAU--it was really crowded, and rightly so.

A little upstairs-downstairs. (Wilbur didn't tend to take pictures in the sumptuously decorated rooms).

FOUGERES (a stop while I ferreted out some ham sandwiches on a Sunday afternoon.)

CHAMBORD
--imposing and confusing.
